Several areas under Kalyanpur in Tripura are regularly suffering from power crisis. Due to rampant load shedding, voltage fluctuation and low voltage, water supply services have also been affected, local people of Kalyanpur alleged. However, Power department officials said, keeping power supply smooth in vast areas under Kalyanpur is not feasible owing to shortage of manpower and infrastructural facilities.
Regular power crisis at Kalyanpur area has sparked huge resentment among the locals. “Either the department will ensure smooth power supply or else we will stage intensified agitation”, a resident of Kalyanpur commented.
According to available details, there has been no electricity in Kamalnagar under Kalyanpur sector since Wednesday morning. There are around 4,000 families who are suffering from power outages. Locals from Amar Colony and North Kamalnagar alleged the power goes away with drizzling, let alone heavy rain. Ration dealers had to shut down government food warehouses due to lack of electricity since Wednesday morning.
Nihar Ranjan Das, senior manager of the department could not give any palusible explantion behind the frequent power issues, sources alleged.
According to sources, people complained several times in the past about power crisis, but all the pleas had felled into deaf ears. Local people alleged, the power department has not taken any step to resolve the issues and moreover staff of the department not even attending any of the customer’s calls.
According to reports, electricity goes to five feeders under the Kalyanpur area everyday and there are more than 10,000 subscribers in different areas. Shortage of power corporation staff is a major stumbling block in providing uninterrupted power supply and fixing technical snags.
The officials also cited lack of adequate number of vehicles to attend customers’ grievances. “There is only a single vehicle which is not enough for us”, said an officials. Locals said they demand an immediate solution or else they would be bound to lay siege to the department.
