In a unique initiative to improve studies in hostels, the Tripura Government has come up with a new scheme – ‘Mother on Campus’. The objective of the new scheme is to ensure that the students, who are staying in hostels, focus more on studies.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Education Minister Ratanlal Nath announced that the scheme will enable the biological mothers or the mothers who legally adopted a child to stay with their children in the government-run hostels.
Nath expressed hope saying that the project will help in bringing a change in the hostel environment and improve studies.
Sharing details, the Education minister said, “Mothers of two students will be allowed to stay in the hostels at a time for one week. Before leaving the hostels, they will share their feedback regarding studies of the children, cleanliness, quality of foods and discipline in a prescribed format.
The feedback will be reviewed by the hostel superintendents every week.”
The scheme will not cover the boy’s hostels (except the students of Class I to V) where infrastructures like separate accommodation and toilets are not available, he said.
According to Nath, no additional funds for foods of the mothers would be required and the presence of mothers would help the students connect with studies in a bigger way.
He said the decision on ‘Mother on Campus’ was taken followed by a meeting held in September last.
The Education minister said total 9935 students are now staying in 204 hostels run by the SC, ST and Minorities Welfare departments.
