Tripura Crime Branch busted a cyber fraud gang and arrested five alleged fraudsters of the gang at Chittorgarh in Rajasthan on April 28.

Police sources said the five arrested Cyber fraudsters are Navneet Singh, Mahivardhan Singh Ranawat, Raju Jat, Bheru Singh and Nitesh Menaria. All of them hail from Chittorgarh in Rajasthan. They were produced before the local court in Chottorgarh with a prayer for transit remand and bring them Tripura. However, the court granted them bail.

According to Police sources, the arrested Cyber fraudsters conspired amongst themselves and they opened numerous bank accounts in their names and in the name of other through online mode. After opening these Bank Accounts, they create WhatsApp account with name and photo of high profile persons including the CM and Dy CM of Tripura and impersonated them and asked the public/others to deposit money in these accounts.  After getting influenced by the impersonating identity of the high profile persons, some persons deposited huge amount money in the alleged accounts. In this way, the accused persons defrauded huge amount of money from the public for their personal benefits and gains.

Police sources added, during examination (interrogation), they made contradictory statements. Accordingly they were arrested on April 28 morning.

The arrests referred to Case No-2022WAG054 under section 120 (B)/419/501 of IPC and 66D of IT Act at West Agartala Police station in Tripura.

The case was lodged on April 20 last after it was noticed that some miscreants were trying to impersonate Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura Jishnu Dev Varma by sending message on Whatsapp from mobile number 918269762106 and asking money to deposit in the Bank Accounts of Raju Jat.
