Ahead of the Assembly elections in Tripura, security personnel seized contraband items – Yaba tablets and Brown Sugar from two different places in Sepahijala and North Tripura district. Total three including two women were arrested in this connection on Saturday (January 21).
Police personnel of Sonamura police station alongwith BSF jawans of Kulubari and NC Nagar BOP conducted a joint raid at Aralia village under the Sonamura Police station on Saturday.
After a prolonged search, security personnel recovered 2000 Yaba tablets and 52 gram of Brown Sugar from the residence of one Sadek Mia.
The market of the seized Brown Sugar was estimated to be around Rs 17 lakh.
Police arrested Sadek Mia and registered a case under the NDPS Act.
In a separate incident, security personnel recovered Brown Sugar from the possession of two women at Jampui road in Kanchanpur sub division under North Tripura today.
The two arrested women are – Sayanti Reang (26) of Tumshurai village and Chani Reang (32) of Kargil Para in the Panisagar sub-division.
Based on a tip-off, DIB and SB personnel stopped the scooty in which the women were travelling from Damchhera area to Kanchanpur. After searching the duo, security personnel seized Brown Sugar worth over Rs 1 lakh, two Android mobiles and Rs 5000 in cash from their possession.
Both Sayanti Reang and Chani Reang were arrested.
Sources said the duo used to bring Brown Sugar from Damchhera and supply in wholesale in different areas under Kanchanpur Sub-division in North Tripura district.
Despite strict vigilance, the drug menace continues in the State putting the future of the youth of the State in danger.
