The polling for Tripura Assembly largely remained peaceful barring few stray incidents.
Even as peace prevailed in most parts, sitting MLA and BJP Candidate for Pencharthal, Santana Chakma and IPFT Candidate for Asharambari Jayanti Debbarma had to face unruly supporters. BJP Candidate for Golaghati, Himani Debbarma alleged intimidation and obstruction in voting. Besides, at least three persons sustained critical injuries today.
Santana Chakma was attacked allegedly abused and attacked allegedly by some TIPRA Motha activists. The incident occurred today at Anderchhera polling booth under Pencharthal from where she is seeking her second successive victory.
She went to the booth after receiving information that EVM was not functioning in the booth. As she came out after addressing the issue, she came under attack.
With the help of others, the Minister managed to escape the fury of the goons. Later, she lodged complaints with the Returning Office, concerned Observer and Pencharthal Police station.
In another incident, TIPRA Motha activists were accused of creating troubles at Asharambari Constituency.
Daughter of late NC Debbarma and IPFT candidate in Asharambari constituency Jayanti Debbarma was repeatedly prevented from entering into the 33 no booth at Kobrapara SB School under the constituency allegedly by the TIPRA Motha supporters.
Besides, BJP Candidate for Golaghati Constituency Himani Debbarma alleged TIPRA Motha supporters obstructed voters and threatened them. She told the reporters that she prepared a list of booths where voters were intimidated and obstructed and she would demand re-polling in those booths.
Incidents of violence were reported from Shalgara under Kakraban Assembly Constituency where on CPIM activist was attacked allegedly by BJP backed goons and was sent to GB Hospital in critical condition.
Similar incident was reported from Boxanagar Assembly area miscreants attacked CPIM local Committee secretary Ashish Sarkar with a machete. He sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment.
Two groups of CPIM and BJP supporters got involved in a brawl in which one BJP activist, Abul Mia sustained injuries and was sent to Agartala in a critical condition.
One Presiding Officer had to face angry supporters in Kamalpur in which was also manhandled.
