Violent clashes between rival political parties and attack on BJP activists were reported from different areas under Unakoti and North districts in Tripura during the last 24 hours. Several persons including two women were injured.

 

Supporters of BJP and TIPRA Motha clashed at Rajkandi under Fatikroy Assembly Constituency in Unakoti district on Sunday night. 

 

At least five BJP activists including a woman  were injured while three TIPRA Motha supporters were wounded. Two of the injured persons, one each of both parties, were sent to the Unakoti District Hospital while the remaining persons are undergoing treatment at Fatikroy.

 

The clash sparked panic and local people demanded immediate action against the miscreants.

 

Places in North Tripura district also witnessed  violence on Sunday night and Monday. 

 

The polling agent of newly elected BJP’s Santana Chakma – Maloy Deb – was attacked allegedly by some CPIM cadres in between Premtala and Ujan Machpara in North District on . Maloy Deb sustained serious injuries and was shifted to Dharmanagar District Hospital. 

 

Family members told the media that doctors of District Hospital had referred Deb to Guwahati for treatment. 

 

Meantime, Police arrested two persons – Prabhat Kumar Debnath and Sukumar Nath – in this connection.

 

After contesting Assembly polls in Tripura in seat sharing understanding, supporters of Congress-CPIM are reportedly carrying out violent attacks jointly against the ruling party, BJP, supporters in Jubarajnagar under North District from where the CPIM candidate, Shailendra Debnath, won the Assembly polls. 

 

It was alleged Congress-CPIM supporters attacked one Purnima Deb of West Paschim Dewanpasha and left her wounded. Later, Fire Service personnel rescued her and brought her to the Dharmanagar Hospital. 

 

In a separate incident, seven BJP activists were injured in an attack unleashed allegedly by Congress leader Digbijoy Chakraborty and other Congress-CPIM supporters at Sripur in the North District. 

 

Two BJP workers sustained head injuries at Haflong in the same. 

 

Despite repeated appeals by the administration, the menace of hooligans is continuing.
