A four-member delegation from the Bangladesh Pritilata Waddedar Trust Board, which commemorates the revolutionary heroine Pritilata Waddedar, a comrade-in-arms of Masterda Surya Sen, visited the residence of the late freedom fighter Sushil Kumar Dey at Teliamura in Tripura on Sunday.

They met with his family members and officials of the Masterda Surya Sen Trust Board in the residence of the freedom fighter. They collected information about the late freedom fighter Sushil Kumar Dey’s last days and urged the present generation to be inspired by the patriotism and sacrifice of these brave warriors of the freedom struggle.

Tripura-freedom-fighter-Sushil-Kumar-DeyThe Bangladesh representative team included Pankaj Chakraborty, the founding president of the Bangladesh Pritilata Waddedar Trust, journalist Daisy Maudur, Shubhra Biswas, president of the Kalpurush Natya Sanstha and permanent member of the Pritilata Waddedar Trust, and Amina Rahman.

To welcome and honor the representatives from Bangladesh, Rupak Sarkar, chairman of the Teliamura Municipality, Madhusudan Ray, vice-chairman, councilor Achintya Bhattacharya, prominent playwright Manoranjan Gope, Arun Baran Dey, the son of the late Sushil Kumar Dey, and other prominent personalities were present at Sushil Kumar Dey’s residence.

The late freedom fighter Sushil Kumar Dey of undivided India came to live in the village of Jaynagar in Teliamura, after his release from the Andaman Jail in 1949. He remained there until his last breath in the year 2000. During his lifetime, with his financial assistance, he established the Surya Sen Award and Trust Board in Teliamura, a marble statue of Surya Sen, and several social institutions.

Sushil Kumar Dey actively participated in the looting of the Chittagong Armory under Masterda’s instructions, the destruction of the European Club under the leadership of the all-time great heroine of the country’s freedom struggle Pritilata Waddedar, and the Dhurla Shooter case. Late Dey was given special recognition by the present state government for his strong role in the freedom struggle by naming the Teliamura-Baishgharia bridge over the Khowai river after him.
