While many places in the country are facing scorching heat, Tripura along with most of its northeastern counterparts, received a welcome surprise on Thursday as the southwest monsoon arrived a week earlier than usual.
This has officially marked the beginning of the rainy season. This year’s monsoon arrival came six days ahead of the typical June 10 date. The arrival of the monsoon will bring much-needed respite from the summer heat.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a dynamic weather pattern for the next 24 hours. All districts across the state can expect rain, with the possibility of thunder and lightning.
Wind speeds could pick up, reaching 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.
Residents in North Tripura and Dhalai districts should be particularly cautious, as the IMD has issued a heavy rainfall warning accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Looking ahead, Friday will see generally cloudy skies with scattered showers. Light to moderate rain, possibly accompanied by thunder and lightning, is forecast for some areas.
The maximum temperature is expected to dip slightly to a comfortable 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to remain around 27 degrees Celsius.
On Thursday, Agartala witnessed a high of 35 degrees Celsius and a low of 27.8 degrees Celsius.
This early arrival of the monsoon is likely to benefit the region’s agricultural sector, replenishing water reserves and aiding in crop cultivation. However, as the power sector in the State is still grappling to come out of Cyclone Remal, early onset of rainy season may cause a delay in restoration of power supply which will affect drinking water supply system.
