Three Tripura youths were arrested in Karimganj with Yaba tablets worth Rs 66 crore on Wednesday.
A team from the district police of Assam conducted an operation in the Lamajua area of the Karimganj-Silchar National Highway and recovered the drugs along with arresting three people. Police seized 2 lakh 20 thousand Yaba tablets in the operation.
Led by Assam Police IGP Partha Sarathi Mahanta and Karimganj Police Superintendent Parthapratim Das, this successful operation on Wednesday afternoon.
The recovered contraband is estimated to have a market value of Rs 66 crore taka, police said.
The Yaba tablets were seized and three Tripura youths were arrested from a numberless Bolero camper vehicle which was coming from Mizoram towards Tripura.
When the vehicle reached the Lamajua area of the Silchar National Highway, the police intercepted the vehicle. They searched it and recovered 2 lakh 20 thousand Yaba tablets hidden inside the rear lights.
The arrested persons have been identified as: Khayrul Hossain, Nabir Hossain and Maman Mia. All three arrested accused persons hail from the Melaghar area under the Sepahijala District of Tripura.
They are all notorious drug traffickers and were booked by the Tripura Police.
They have been arrested and detained at Karimganj Sadar Police Station for interrogation.
Karimganj Police registered a case under the NDPS Act in this incident and is trying to find others involved.

Earlier, only a couple days ago, Tripura Police intercepted a luxury car that was coming from Mizoram and recovered drugs worth Rs 25 crore. Police also arrested two persons, residents of the Sonamura area of the Sepahijala District.
