In view of the ISKCON-organized Rath Yatra tragedy that occurred in Kumarghat last year during the auspicious journey of the chariot, administrative activities have started across the state this year to ensure that no such incident occurs again.

As part of this, Khowai District Magistrate Chandni Chandran visited the traditional Sri Sri Krishna Chaitanya Ashram’s Rath in Teliamura for inspection on Friday.

She was accompanied by Teliamura subdivisional officer Krishnendu Debbarma and chairman of the Teliamura Municipal Council Rupak Sarkar.

On this day, the DM spoke with the Ashram’s spiritual head Ramananda Goswami. Later, the District Magistrate instructed the sub-divisional officer to hold a meeting with the various line departments today and issue a government guideline considering the area-specific situation. Besides, the DM directed the SDM to monitor the implementation of those guidelines.

Local sources said, applications for two Rath Yatra were submitted so far in the Teliamura police station area.

Notably, ahead of the upcoming Rath Yatra, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha instructed everyone to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival and to take all necessary precautions to prevent any untoward incidents.

A virtual meeting to this end was convened on July 3 last under the chairmanship of Dr. Saha in Agartala to review the preparations for the upcoming Rath Yatra in the state.

Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan, and Secretary Dr. PK Chakraborty were present at the meeting.

District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from all districts attended via video conference.

During the meeting, Dr. Saha said, “This festival upholds our state’s rich traditional harmony. Many visitors gather for this occasion, so it’s essential that everyone ensures that the festival proceeds smoothly. We must take all necessary measures to prevent any untoward incidents”.
