The Union Minister of State for Tourism, Petroleum, and Natural Gas, Suresh Gopi, concluded a three-day visit to Tripura to inspect and advance the state’s tourism and infrastructure projects. Accompanied by the state’s Tourism Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, the Union Minister participated in a series of events and site visits aimed at boosting Tripura’s appeal as a tourist destination.
On Thursday, Suresh Gopi visited the revered Tripureswari Temple in Matabari, Udaipur, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, along with Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
The Tripureswari Temple is currently undergoing a major transformation under the Central Government’s PRASAD scheme, which aims to enhance pilgrimage tourism. The project, initiated two years ago, has seen significant progress and is now advancing rapidly. With an initial investment of Rs 37 crore, the scheme seeks to revamp the temple’s infrastructure and facilities, though Minister Chowdhury indicated that the overall project cost might increase.
The Government of India’s tourism department, in close collaboration with Tripura’s tourism department, has meticulously planned the temple’s revamp. The comprehensive blueprint for the temple’s new look has been prepared, and work is in full swing. During his visit, Gopi was briefed on the various facets of the project and shown around the temple premises by Minister Chowdhury.
Expressing satisfaction with the project’s progress, Gopi assured that the Central Government would continue to extend all possible support to ensure the temple’s further development. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in boosting tourism and preserving cultural heritage.
On his return from Udaipur, Gopi visited the ONGC Tripura Power Company Limited’s (OTPC) thermal power plant in Palatana, Gomati district. This visit was part of his oversight of the infrastructure projects under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
During his three-day visit, the Union Minister closely examined the project implementation details and construction progress. He interacted with key officials, including the Secretary of the Tourism Department, Uttam Kumar Chakma, and Joint Director Aniruddha Roy, among others.
After a packed schedule of inspections and meetings, Suresh Gopi departed for Delhi on Thursday afternoon. Minister Sushanta Chowdhury was present at the airport to bid him farewell.
