Tripura is grappling with severe flooding and landslides caused by incessant rainfall.
At least five people including three of a family died in landslides till the report was filed on Tuesday. 

Most of the major rivers have breached danger levels and inundated vast areas across the State. Many people have taken shelter in relief camps while relief works are underway.

Many roads in including NH were badly affected hitting vehicular movements.

Five people buried alive

Three members of the same family died when a landslide buried their house in Debipur ADC Village under Santir Bazar Sub-division in the South Tripura on Tuesday.

The deceased are Trishankar Chakma, his wife Ranjani Chakma, and their daughter Binita Chakma (12). The relief are struggling to reach the spot as the connecting road to the village has been badly damaged. Locals rescued the bodies from the debris.

An elderly woman died after being buried in a landslide at the Gurinang Para Bru Rehabilitation Center in New Gomati ADC Village under Karbook Sub-division.

The deceased has been identified as Maiyi Reang (62). She had gone to the toilet adjacent to her residence to attend to nature’s call when a landslide occurred, burying the toilet.

After a nearly four-hour-long rescue operation by locals, her body was recovered. Later, administrative officials rushed to the Gurinang Para Bru Rehabilitation Center.

A teenager, Birendra Debbarma, died after a landslide triggered by incessant rain collapsed on his house last night. The incident took place in Champlai Lakhai Bazaar under Mungiaakami Police Station. His parents came out of the ill-fated house to go toilet.

Meantime, a critically injured elderly person was rescued from a house in a flood-affected area at Teliamura Dashami Ghat under the Khowai District today. The elderly person was trapped inside the house due to the flood. Fire service personnel rescued him and took to the sub-divisional hospital.

Road connectivity hit hard

A landslide at Saika Hill on the Kamapur -Kailashahar road badly hit the vehicular movements. Visuals show cars left stranded on the road due to landslides.

Another landslide has blocked National Highway 8 at Atharamura. Besides, a tree  was uproot and blocked the National Highway at Teliamura. Attempts to clear the roads are underway.

Owing to heavy deluge, a portion of a road in Chittamara under Belonia in the South Tripura District caved in affecting vehicular movements along the road.

Houses, agri-lands inundated

Vast areas in Belonia, Jolaibari and Santirbazar have gone under the water forcing people take refuge in relief camps.

With Juri and Kakri rivers breaching the banks, residential areas and agri-lands in Dharmanagar were submerged.

Similar situations emerged in Teliamura and Kalyanpur.

In Agartala, several areas remained under water as Haora River is overflowing.

As directed by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, administration and relief teams have hit the ground across Tripura to combat the situation.
