In the wake of the devastating floods that have ravaged the Sabroom subdivision of Tripura, the efforts of 12 Tripura Civil Service (TCS) officers have stood out as a bright ray of hope for the affected villagers.

Acting on their initiative, these officers have adopted two of the hardest-hit villages—Kalibazar and Mongoli Para—and have provided essential relief materials to the distressed tribal families.

This intervention has been crucial in helping the villagers navigate the aftermath of the disaster.

Tripura-flood-TCS-officers-sabroomThe Sabroom subdivision has been one of the most severely affected areas in the recent floods, which caused widespread destruction across multiple villages, including Bhuratali, Ratan Mani, Harbatali, and Meru Para.

The villages were left cut off from the other places, without electricity or communication networks.

Among the worst-hit areas, Kalibazar and Bhuratali saw numerous houses reduced to rubble due to landslides.

In Mongoli Para, floodwaters surged into homes at 4 a.m. on August 22, forcing villagers to flee to higher grounds with their young children.

For two days, they took refuge on a hill, exposed to the incessant rains, subsisting only on boiled bamboo shoots under plastic covers.

As floodwaters began to recede, the villagers of Mongoli Para made their way back home on August 24.

It was then that the subdivision administration’s relief workers arrived with vital supplies, bringing much-needed relief to the traumatized residents.

“The relief workers appeared like gods before us,” said Parbati Tripura, a resident of Mongoli Para, whose homes were destroyed by the floodwaters.

In a heartening display of compassion and solidarity, the TCS officers of the Sabroom subdivision took it upon themselves to adopt the two devastated villages, ensuring that the affected families received the aid they desperately needed.

The officers provided relief materials to 49 tribal families in Kalibazar ADC Village and 40 families in Mongoli Para, Ratan Mani ADC Village.

The relief packages included essential items such as water filters, emergency solar lights, tiffin boxes, buckets, pitchers, and other necessities, crucial for the families to rebuild their lives.

Besides, for the 49 families who had taken shelter in Kalibazar Uttar Jaipur High School, the officers arranged a midday meal, ensuring that these displaced families had access to at least one nutritious meal during the day.

Speaking about the relief efforts, Sabroom Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shibjyoti Dutta emphasized the humanitarian aspect of the initiative.

“This is a humanitarian act. We have tried to provide small quantity of relief materials to the families who were severely affected by the devastating flood. We want to convey that the entire subdivision administration is with the flood-affected people in this battle of life,” the SDM said.

The TCS officers’ initiative has not only brought immediate relief to the distressed families but has also restored a sense of hope and enhanced the relationship with the administration.

Local people applauded their proactive approach in adopting villages and providing relief materials.
