A 27-year-old man named John Reang lost his life in a brawl that erupted during a picnic at the Narikel Kunj coconut grove in Tripura.

The incident report detailed that on Friday, seven friends from the sub-district area had gathered at the Narikel Kunj, a popular tourist spot in the state, for a picnic. Among them were three individuals from Ganganagar police station area, three from Raisya Bari police station area, and one from the Ultachara Bru Settlement Camp.

According to reports, a drinking session escalated into a heated argument and subsequently a physical altercation among the seven friends. John Reang was severely injured in the brawl. When he could not be found, a search was initiated.

On Saturday morning, his body was discovered floating in the Dumbur water body adjacent to the Narikel Kunj ghat. Locals recovered the body and with the help of the police, took it to the Gandacherra Sub-Divisional Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination conducted around 3 PM on the same day.

Meanwhile, around a hundred people from the Bru Settlement Camp staged a protest in front of the Gandacherra police station on Saturday demanding the arrest of the accused. The protesters later dispersed after the Dhalai district police assured them that the accused would be arrested within 24 hours.

In the latest update, the police have detained six suspects in connection with the incident. Among them are three individuals from Ganganagar police station area and three from Raisya Bari police station area. They are being interrogated at Ganganagar and Raisya Bari police stations. The murder of John Reang has cast a pall of gloom over the Bru Settlement Camp.
