A young judoka from Tripura, Tania Das, has once again brought immense pride to her state by clinching a gold medal in the Khelo India National Ranking Women’s Judo Championship held in Thrissur, Kerala. This victory is just the latest in a string of impressive achievements for the rising star.
Tania Das competed in the sub-junior girls’ 44 kg category in the Khelo India National Ranking Women’s Judo Championship.
Last year, she had set a record by winning four gold medals in the national competition. This year, she won the gold medal at the Eastern Regional competition held in Shillong. Now, she has added another gold medal to her collection in Thrissur. Naturally, there is a wave of joy in the state’s judo community.
The Vivekananda Judo Center- Tania gets her trainings here- was established in Udaipur in 2021 under the guidance of NIS coach Dr. Mihir Shil. Eventually, the center found a place in the Girihari Palli Flowers Club. The training is being conducted under the initiative of the club’s secretary, Kamaljit Saha.
In the Khelo India competition held from 23-27 September, besides Tania, Uma Begum and Indrani Das also participated from the center. The club secretary bore some of the expenses of travel for these three. He is delighted with Tania’s outstanding success and has congratulated the golden girl.
The state’s Finance Minister, Pranajit Singh Roy also congratulated Tania. He wished Tania a bright future and expressed confidence that Uma and Indrani would succeed in the competition. Tania’s coach, Dr. Mihir Shil, is happy and said that Tania deserved this. He expressed confidence that Tania would bring more medals to Tripura.
