Gomati District Hospital in Tripura has been awarded the esteemed LaQshya certification by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, recognizing its unwavering commitment to improving the quality of its labour room and maternity operation theatre services.

This prestigious achievement marks a significant step in the hospital’s ongoing efforts to elevate healthcare standards, despite facing numerous challenges along the way.

What is LaQshya ?

LaQshya, an acronym for Labour Room Quality Improvement Initiative, is a flagship program of the Ministry aimed at enhancing the standards of labour rooms and maternity operation theatres (OTs) across India.

The certification is granted to healthcare facilities that demonstrate outstanding service quality, focusing on patient-centric care, safety, and clinical excellence.

A Rigorous Evaluation Process

The road to LaQshya certification was anything but easy. In June, the Ministry deployed independent national-level assessors to evaluate the hospital’s services through a multi-stage assessment process.

These assessments examined various aspects, including infrastructure, service delivery, infection control, and patient feedback.

Gomati District Hospital excelled, earning a commendable score of 90% for its labour room services and 84% for its maternity OT.

Overcoming Challenges to Achieve Excellence

The journey to this recognition was marked by relentless effort and dedication. Serving patients from four districts—Gomati, Sipahijala, South Tripura, and parts of Dhalai—the hospital caters to a large and diverse population. Despite resource constraints and an ever-growing patient load, the staff consistently prioritized quality and innovation to enhance maternal healthcare.

Dr. Kajal Kumar Das, Medical Superintendent of the hospital and a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics, highlighted the significance of this achievement. “The labour room and maternity OT are among the most sensitive and critical areas of any hospital as they mark the beginning of new lives. This certification is a testament to the hard work of our doctors, nursing officers, and all staff members who worked tirelessly to raise the bar for healthcare services,” he said.

Support and Collaboration: Keys to Success

Dr. Das credited the hospital’s success to strong support from various stakeholders. He expressed gratitude to Finance Minister Pranajit Sinha Roy, who provided unwavering guidance and resources to help the hospital overcome challenges.

Moreover, the Director of Health Services, the District Magistrate of Gomati, and the Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) members played pivotal roles in driving improvements.

“This certification is not the end of our journey. It is a milestone that motivates us to sustain and further enhance our services. With the collective effort of our team and the support of our stakeholders, we are committed to continuous improvement,” Dr. Das added.

A Beacon of Hope in Healthcare

The LaQshya certification not only brings recognition to Gomati District Hospital but also serves as an inspiration for other healthcare facilities in the region. By setting a benchmark for quality maternal and neonatal care, the hospital has reaffirmed its role as a trusted healthcare provider for thousands of families, sources claimed.
