Tripura lose sports veteran Prabodh Ranjan Dutta, father of journalist Kiriti Dutta, who passed away at 83. Agartala Press Club and State sports community offer condolences.
Agartala April 8: Prabodh Ranjan Dutta, father of Agartala Press Club member and noted sports journalist Kiriti Dutta, passed away late Monday night at Tripura Medical College Hospital.
The 83-year-old sports veteran, who had been battling a long-term illness, was admitted on April 2 following a decline in his health.
Despite intensive medical efforts, he breathed his last at 3:22 AM, marking the end of a remarkable life dedicated to sports and community service.
Prabodh Ranjan was a prominent figure in Tripura, serving as the president of the Tripura Matrix Chess Academy and earning accolades as a seasoned sports organizer.
His contributions to chess and sports development in the region were widely admired. Last rites of the Sports Veteran were performed on Tuesday morning at the Battala crematorium in Agartala.
He leaves behind two sons—Kiriti Dutta, a distinguished sports journalist, and Prosenjit Dutta, an international chess player and coach of the Indian chess team—along with a daughter, relatives, and countless admirers.

The Agartala Press Club mourned his loss, issuing a statement of deep sorrow and extending condolences to his family. Agartala Press Club president Pranab Sarkar met the bereaved family members and expressed condolences.
“His demise is a significant loss to the community,” Sarkar noted, highlighting his enduring influence.
