Agartala, April 22, 2025 – Tripura’s Sagar Datta Majumdar has brought pride to his state by successfully clearing the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025.
With an impressive rank of 317, he is likely to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), marking a significant milestone in his academic and professional journey.

A Stellar Achievement
Hailing from Natunpalli of Krishnanagar in Agartala, Sagar, the son of ONGC official Tushar Datta Majumdar and Gauri Datta Majumdar, has consistently demonstrated academic excellence.
His latest achievement of cracking UPSC, follows another notable success in 2024, when he topped the Tripura Civil Service (TCS) examination, securing the first position.
A Journey of Academic Brilliance
Sagar’s path to success has been marked by consistent dedication. A standout student, he scored an impressive 95% in both his CBSE Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations.
He later pursued a BSc Honours in Physics at Delhi University, laying a strong academic foundation. To prepare for competitive exams, Sagar enrolled at the School of Science in Agartala, where his disciplined approach led to his first major breakthrough—topping the TCS in 2024.
His UPSC success has further cemented his reputation as a driven and capable individual, inspiring peers and aspiring civil servants across Tripura.

Lakshya-Chief Minister’s Special Scholarship scheme
Earlier, Sagar Datta Majumdar was selected for Tripura government’s Lakshya-Chief Minister’s Special Scholarship.
Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha personally handed over a sanction letter for Rs 5 lakh to Sagar Datta Majumdar at his official residence in Agartala under the scholarship programme on December 26, 2024.
The sanction letter giving ceremony was attended by notable officials, including the Chief Minister’s Secretary, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, Special Secretary of the Education Department, Raval Hemendra Kumar, Director of Higher Education, Animesh Debbarma, and other officials from the Higher Education Department.
The Lakshya-Chief Minister’s Special Scholarship scheme, launched by the Higher Education Department in the 2019-20 financial year, supports UPSC aspirants from Tripura. Under this initiative, candidates who pass the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination and qualify for the Main Examination are eligible for a one-time scholarship of Rs 5 lakh.
Those who clear the Main Examination and qualify for the interview stage receive an additional Rs 20,000 as a scholarship for the second phase.
Eligibility for the scheme requires candidates to be residents of Tripura with a family annual income below Rs 10 lakh. Since its inception, nine UPSC aspirants from Tripura have benefited from the scheme up to the 2023-24 financial year.
Notably, Shatabdi Majumdar from Teliamura was selected as an IAS officer, and Saurab Das from Bishalgarh as an IRS officer.
