Agartala, April 26, 2025:   In a notable achievement for Tripura’s healthcare sector, a total of  5,409 patients  have undergone successful surgeries at  Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and  GBP Hospital  over the past three months, from January 2025 to April 12, 2025.

Addressing a press conference at the Agartala Press Club,  Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte shared detailed statistics on the hospitals’ performance.

Out of the total surgeries performed,  2,425 were conducted in the Surgery Department,  2,374  in Orthopedics,  515  in ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat), and  95  in the Neurosurgery Department.

Gitte mentioned that  99 percent  of the surgeries were  planned procedures, scheduled in advance. Currently,   158 patients  are on the waiting list for surgeries up to June 2025.

In addition to surgeries, the hospitals conducted  1,638 echocardiography procedures  during the same period.

Gitte also highlighted the availability of  two operational C-Arm machines  at AGMC and GBP Hospital, crucial for real-time imaging during surgeries.

The hospital currently houses  nine super-specialty departments,   five broad super-specialty departments, and   four super-specialty departments, with a total bed capacity of   1,413 beds .

Each year,  150 students  enroll in the MBBS program and  89 students  in postgraduate courses at AGMC, strengthening the state’s medical education infrastructure.

Discussing patient welfare schemes, Gitte informed the media that during the last financial year,  14,222 patients  availed benefits under the  Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), while   7,003 patients  benefited from the  Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana  at AGMC and GBP Hospital. These benefits extend to TMC and other associated hospitals as well.

The Secretary further revealed that  56 doctors  currently serve in the Anesthesiology, ENT, Surgery, and Orthopedic departments combined.

He announced that a  Rs 13 crore grant  has been approved for setting up a  Cath Lab, and a proposal seeking  Rs 56 crore has been submitted to the central government for upgrading hospital facilities and acquiring new medical equipment.

Efforts are also underway to establish a  dedicated Stroke Ward  to enhance emergency care services.

Gitte emphasized that  Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha  has prioritized the healthcare sector in Tripura. Through the  “Mukhyamantri Samipeshu”  program, the Chief Minister personally ensures the provision of medical assistance to those in need every Wednesday.

During the press conference,  GBP Hospital Superintendent Dr. Shankar Chakraborty  and  Health Department Director Dr. Tapan Majumder  also shared various healthcare performance metrics and future plans for the hospital.
