Agartala (Tripura) Sep 4: Media in Tripura widely covered attacks on court premises and hackling the Judges allegedly by picketers during Bharat Bandh. Also the issues of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and HC’s order on private tuitions grabbed the media headlines. Here is the a few excerpts of media reports.

Dainik Sambad, Agartala, Sep 4, 2015|| Judges hackled during Bharat Bandh, Chief Justice expressed concern: HC writes to CM to take action against perpetrators: Picketers of general strike called by Trade Unions on Sep 2, 2015 attacked and ransacked Court premises in two places – Sabroom and Belonia in South Tripura. This has sparked serious criticism from various quarters. The local administration filed cases against the alleged culprits, however no one has so far nabbed. Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Tripura High Court expressed concern over the anarchy during the strike in a letter written to the CM Manik Sarkar urging him to take necessary action.

Dainik Sambad, Agartala, Sept 4, 2015|| New row over regularisation of teachers under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan: Educational qualification of the contractual teachers under SSA has become a new factor of impediment to the way of their regularisation in job. State Minister Tapan Chakraborty observed today that a society but the State Govt has appointed them. Over the issue of their regularisation under the State Govt, he said this may be possible only in compliance with existing rules of the Govt.

Dainik Sambad, Agartala, Sept 4, 2015|| No ‘Teaching Shop’, orders Tripura HC on tuition: Teachers of Govt as well as private educational institutions are not allowed to provide private coaching, a division Bench of Tripura High Court ordered this today on private tuition. The court held private coaching is prohibited to school-students upto age of 14 years in compliance with the Right to Education Act.

The Assam Tribune, Guwahati, Sept 4, 2015|| Centre willing to release Rs 207 cr under SDRF: With the floods wreaking havoc in Assam, the Centre is willing to release the second instalment amount of Rs 207 crore out of the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) to the State Government. According to sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), though the first instalment of Rs 207 crore was released to the State on May 27 on 90:10 sharing basis, the second instalment was not due until December. However, if the Government of Assam requests the MHA then the Centre is willing to release it on a priority basis, the sources added.

Deccan Chronicle (EDIT.), Bangalore, Sept 4, 2015 || Manipur crisis is of identity, resources: The well-orchestrated violence in the tribal hill-town of Churachandpur in Manipur has for the time being been contained, although the extensive curfew remains. Houses of legislators and ministers have been attacked and burned and a number of people have been killed. It would be salutary if uncertainties are removed forthwith. No occasion should be provided for the Kuki tribes to make common cause with the Nagas and others against the valley.

Highland Post (EDIT), Shillong, Sept 4, 2015 || Risky portents in Manipur: The long standing demand has been to introduce a system similar to the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in other north-eastern States, or some similar stipulation, to stop in-migration. But for this to be effective, the State needs to identify the ‘outsiders’ first. But that is a complex issue anywhere in the north-eastern region as the borders are largely porous and the Government of India has not done enough to check the passage of people across them. The Centre and the State need to come forward quickly, to engage the people and figure out a solution to the crisis.
