Agartala, April 2, 2025 — In a major push to strengthen the education sector in Tripura, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday announced that the state government has planned an investment of over Rs 151 crore for the comprehensive development of educational infrastructure. The announcement came as the Chief Minister inaugurated several newly constructed school buildings in the West Tripura district, including the upgraded Ramnagar Higher Secondary School (English Medium) in Agartala.
Dr. Saha, who also holds the Education portfolio, said the state’s top priority is to provide quality education with a strong focus on digital learning, ensuring that students are equipped to meet the demands of the modern world.
“Our government is committed to building not just infrastructure, but a brighter future for every child in Tripura. With this Rs 151 crore plan, we are transforming our schools with better classrooms, labs, libraries, hostels, and sanitation facilities,” Dr. Saha said.
Along with the physical inauguration of the Ramnagar school building, the Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated new facilities at Barakantal Higher Secondary School, Darogamura High School (English Medium) under Hejamara RD Block, Khudiram Basu English Medium School, and Sukanta Academy English Medium Higher Secondary School. The total cost for these newly built institutions stands at around Rs 8.70 crore.
Digital Education and Teacher Readiness
Dr. Saha emphasized that in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the state government is actively promoting digital and vocational education. He stressed that teachers must adapt to new technology and modern teaching methods.
“The current era is driven by technology. While students today are naturally tech-savvy, teachers must also stay updated to bridge the digital divide and provide relevant education,” he noted.
He also pointed out that internet access and digital tools are significantly improving learning outcomes and reducing dropout rates across the state.
Reflecting on the Past, Committing to the Future
The Chief Minister recalled the dismal state of education in Tripura during the 1970s, stating that many children’s futures were jeopardized due to the chaotic conditions in schools at that time.
“Today, the situation has completely changed. With structured reforms and technology-backed education, we are now witnessing positive outcomes. Education is the foundation of nation-building, and we are working to ensure no child is left behind,” Dr. Saha said.
Inclusive Development and Recruitment Drive
To ensure inclusivity, the government is working to bring students from underprivileged, minority, and remote communities—especially women and girls—into the education mainstream. Dr. Saha also mentioned that the recruitment of qualified teachers through the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is a continuous process to maintain teaching quality.
“Quality education cannot be delivered without quality educators. We are recruiting teachers through TET, and more appointments are planned to meet growing demands,” he added.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several senior leaders and officials, including Food and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Brisaketu Debbarma, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Special Secretary of the Education Department Raval Hemendra Kumar, and Director of Education N.C. Sharma, among others.
