Agartala (Tripura) Sep 10, 2025: Influx from Bangladesh, definition of infiltrators and Literacy in Tripura have been covered in the NE Media. Also AASU’s opposition to centers decision to differentiate Bengali infiltrators on religious line was covered in the regional media along with several other issues.

Here is a list of media and its coverage on the issue:

The Assam Tribune, Guwahati (News report, Sept 9, 2015) writes,

Centre to regularise entry, stay of Bengali Hindus – Influx from Bangladesh: In what is seen as a dilution of the Assam Accord, the Centre has decided to regularise the entry and stay of Hindu Bengalis who migrated from Bangladesh.

An official notification, issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday evening, said the Central Government has decided, on humanitarian considerations, to exempt Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals belonging to minority communities, who have entered India on or before December 31, 2014 from the relevant provisions of rules and order made under the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920 and the Foreigners Act, 1946, in respect of their entry and stay in India, without such documents or after the expiry of those documents, as the case may be.

The Assam Tribune, Guwahati (News report, Sept 9, 2015) writes,

AASU opposes Centre’s move: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) vehemently opposed the notification issued by the Union Government for differentiating the illegal Bangla migrants on religious lines.

In a statement here this evening, the students’ body emphatically said that Assam would not accept any post-March 24, 1971 migrants from Bangladesh.

As per the 1985 Assam Accord, all pre-March 24, 1971 migrants coming to Assam from Bangladesh would be accepted by Assam irrespective of their religious affiliation. Assam has accepted the burden of all such migrants on behalf of the country and there can be no question of Assam accepting the burden of the post-March 24, 1971 migrants, it said.

Newslink, Aizwal (News report, Sept 9, 2015) writes,

Tripura to attain 100 percent literacy soon: Tripura’s literacy rate will soon increase from the existing 96.82 percent to 100 percent and the neo- literate would become economically self-reliant in a phase manner, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said on Tuesday.

The North East Times, Guwahati (News report, Sept 9, 2015) writes,

Centre has not released Rs 1,655 cr for flood relief, asserts Assam: Assam Government asserted that contrary to reports the Centre has not released Rs 1,655 crore for flood relief and rescue operations in the state so far.

Referring to reports in a section of the press that the state government has an available balance of Rs 1,400 crore for relief and rescue operations, a release by the joint secretary to Revenue and Disaster Management department said Rs 1,655 crore was released by the Centre in the beginning of 2015- 16.

The total amount earmarked by the 14th Finance Commission for the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for 2014- 15 is Rs 460 crore, out of which the Centre’s share is Rs 414 crore and state’s share Rs.46 crore, the release said. “Therefore, the question of the Central government releasing Rs.1,655 crore for relief and rescue operation does not arise”, it asserted.

Dainik Sambad, Agartala (News report, Sept 9, 2015) writes,

Definition of infiltrators: new notification of the Home Ministry evokes repercussion: It has clearly differentiated Muslim from the Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Sikh treated as minority groups in Bangladesh & Pakistan. If on the similar reason of crossing the border Muslims had taken entry and started settling in the country could not avail the benefit, would be treated as infiltrators.

Daily Desher Katha, Agartala (News report, Sept 9, 2015) writes,

PM urges to take advantage from global economic slowdown: The Prime Minister at a high level meeting today said now is the opportunity to take the opportunity. However, FICI’s President Jyotsna Suri said the Prime Minister certainly asked for pouring investment, yet I have doubt as how many people would risk doing this as this is now very difficult to understand the directions of market.
