Agartala, May 16, 2025 – In a dazzling display of cricketing prowess, the Tripura U-15 girls’ team secured a resounding 189-run victory over Meghalaya in their second match of the 1st North East Rising Cup Under-15 Girls’ Cricket Tournament.

The commanding performance at the ACA Cricket Academy Ground in Phulunga, Guwahati, on Friday ensured Tripura’s place in the semifinals with a game to spare.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Tripura posted an imposing total of 262 for 3 in a rain-affected 35-over contest. Meghalaya, in response, crumbled under pressure, managing only 73 runs in their chase.

Skipper Anushka Shil led from the front with a scintillating century, while vice-captain Angel Pal’s gritty half-century set the stage for Tripura’s dominance.

On the bowling front, young bowler Ankita Patari delivered a match-defining performance, ripping through Meghalaya’s batting lineup.

A Commanding Batting Display

Despite a delayed start due to a damp outfield, Tripura’s openers Anushka Shil and Angel Pal wasted no time asserting their authority. The duo forged a formidable 119-run partnership off 131 balls, setting a solid foundation.

Anushka Shil and Angel Pal wasted no time asserting their authority. The duo forged a formidable 119-run partnership off 131 balls, setting a solid foundation.

Anushka, in particular, was in sublime form, smashing 111 runs off 92 balls, laced with 14 boundaries and a towering six. Her aggressive stroke play kept the Meghalaya bowlers at bay, earning her the Player of the Match award.

Angel complemented her captain’s fireworks with a well-crafted 56 off 64 balls, studded with 9 boundaries. Their partnership not only demoralized the opposition but also ensured a brisk scoring rate.

After their dismissals, Tripura’s middle order maintained the momentum. Asmita Roy chipped in with a quickfire 22 off 24 balls, including 3 boundaries, while Abhigya Bardhan’s 21 off 15 balls (3 boundaries) and Anubha Pal’s 12 off 17 balls (1 boundary) added valuable runs. Extras, totaling 40, further boosted Tripura’s mammoth score.

Ankita Patari’s Bowling Masterclass

Chasing 263, Meghalaya’s batting lineup was no match for Tripura’s fiery bowling attack, led by Ankita Patari. The young bowler struck early and often, reducing Meghalaya to a precarious 12 for 7 with her relentless accuracy and pace.

Ankita Patari’s spell of 5 wickets for 24 runs was the highlight of the match, effectively sealing Meghalaya’s fate.

Meghalaya’s only resistance came from Namesha E. Marak, who fought valiantly for 46 runs off 49 balls, hitting 7 boundaries and a six.

However, with no other batter reaching double digits and 16 runs coming via extras, Meghalaya’s innings folded quickly. Tripura’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding ensured the opposition had no chance of a comeback.

Coach and Manager’s Reaction

Tripura’s coach, Debabrata Chowdhury, lauded the team’s all-round performance, saying, “The girls played with exceptional skill and determination. Anushka’s century and Ankita’s five-wicket haul were standout moments, but every player contributed to this victory.”

Team manager Partha Chowdhury echoed the sentiment, adding, “This win reflects the hard work and unity of the team. We’re now focused on maintaining this momentum in the semifinals.”

What’s Next for Tripura?

With their semifinal spot secured, Tripura will face Sikkim in their final group-stage match on May 18. The team will look to fine-tune their strategies and carry their winning form into the knockout stages of the tournament.
