1st Phase of UP Polls: 63 pc vote cast in peaceful polls

Out of seven phases, the first phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh Assembly has passed off today peacefully. In the first phase, polls were held in 73 constituencies in 15 districts of the State. 63 per cent of voters exercised their franchise, said EC and added voting is tentative and may change after receiving detailed data.

Voting which began today at 7 AM and concluded at 5 PM. Nearly 2 crore 60 lakh people today sealed the political fate of 839 candidates, including 77 women. The polling process was incidence free barring couple of stray incidence. Surveillance using CCTV and Webcasting system were used in certain polling booths.
