Agartala (Tripura) Sep 15: Following are excerpts of some of the selected news published in todays NER newspapers.

Naga accord: Assam not be affected: Central interlocutor Ravi says: The Government of India will give adequate weightage to the views and concerns of all the stakeholders while going for comprehensive solution of the Naga political problem, assured the Centre’s interlocutor for Naga talks, RV Ravi. He also said that Assam would not be affected in any way in solution of the Naga political problem. Ravi, who is also the Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC), said that the Government is keen on finding a comprehensive solution to the problems and that is why the views of all the stakeholders would be given due consideration while implementing the framework agreement signed with the NSCN (I-M). Talks on separate state of ‘Frontier Nagaland’: Government of India and Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) held the first round of bilateral talks on the demand for the separate State of ‘Frontier Nagaland’ in New Delhi on September 10. Six federating tribes under the banner of ENPO have been demanding a State curved out of the present State of Nagaland. The resolution for separate Statehood was adopted on the May 25, 2000, in Tuensang headquarters which was endorsed by the village councils of the six tribes. (The Assam Tribune: September 15)

 

Meeting on Bru repatriation inconclusive: The tripartite meeting between the Union Home Ministry and the state governments of Mizoram and Tripura held in Delhi yesterday on the issue of repatriation of Brus from six relief camps in Tripura was inconclusive. (The Aizawl Post: September 15)

Ban on meat violation of fundamental rights: Now the BJP ruled states had openly banned slaughter of animals and sale of meat thereby controlling what is on our dining tables which have sparked off further controversy. Such action of the BJP ruled states is hampering the image of the Modi government, as most BJP leaders are of the opinion that the BJP-led NDA government has come to power on the issue of good governance, especially with the assurance of Achhe din aane waale hain (Good days are coming) and that the party is now being given a fanatical hue by such controversial statements and actions. Thackeray vowed to get to the root cause of the problem and said that he strongly believes that people of all faiths must observe their religion within the limits of their homes. His ideology should be emulated by all political parties and state governments. (Meghalaya Times: Editorial: September 15)

BJP opposed to firing range of Assam Rifles at Ambassa: BJP state unit made it clear that the party was not opposed to the firing range, yet the location has been identified by the State government would affect 32 hamlets inhabited by the tribal people. The party for the reason opposed to the decision and sought intervention of the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and BJP central President Amit Shah too to put an end to the move. (Ajker Fariad: September 15)

Tripura CM seeks to curve niche in Assam: CPIM leaders found to have given an eye on Assam polls slated to be held in 2016 with the party leaders like CM Manik Sarkar, MP Sankar Prasad Dutta participating in different party programme in the state very recently. The leftists, particularly CPIM, which had 11 MLAs in the assembly has no member currently. The CPIM sought to turn around the situation by strengthening party organisation in the State. All violence male generated: Maneka Gandhi: Courting controversy, Union Minister Maneka Gandhi on Monday said that the role of man in gender sensitisation was critical since ‘all the violence is male generated”. We have introduced “ Gender Champion” in schools under which boys who have been respectful and helpful to girls will be rewarded, the Minister said in questions while interacting with users on Facebook as part of the Ministry’s ‘#100Women Initiative’ launched in July.
