Feb 28, 2017: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E K Palaniswami has appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately release relief funds for the drought-hit state and for the damage caused by Cyclone Vardah. Speaking to reporters after meeting the Prime Minister in New Delhi yesterday, Mr Palaniswami said, he has also sought 17,333 crore rupees under various other central schemes.

The Chief Minister also put forth the demand to stop hydrocarbon extraction project in Neduvasal in Pudukkottai district that has attracted largescale protests recently. He also discussed the issues related to National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET. The state government is demanding to exempt Tamil Nadu from NEET. This is Mr Palaniswami’s maiden visit to New Delhi after taking charge as Chief Minister.
