Dharmanagar (Tripura), May 23, 2025: In a remarkable incident, a pregnant woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy aboard the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express train en route from Sabroom (South Tripura District) to Sealdah (West Bengal).
The dramatic delivery took place on Thursday, prompting swift action from railway authorities and medical teams to ensure the safety of the mother and newborn at Dharmanagar Railway Station in Tripura.
The Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) at Dharmanagar was alerted about the onboard delivery and immediately coordinated a rescue operation.
Upon the train’s arrival at Dharmanagar Railway Station, a medical team from Dharmanagar Railway Hospital, comprising doctors and nurses, rushed to the scene to provide urgent care.
After an initial examination, both the mother, identified as Katki Nagasia, and her newborn son were confirmed to be in stable condition.
To ensure comprehensive medical attention, authorities promptly contacted Dharmanagar District Hospital.
An ambulance was dispatched to the station, swiftly transporting the mother and child to the hospital for further treatment.
According to hospital officials, both Katki and her baby are receiving care and remain in good health.
Uttam Kumar Kalai, Officer-in-Charge at the PRPS, spoke to reporters about the incident, emphasizing the rapid response of the railway and medical teams.
“We acted swiftly to ensure the safety of the mother and her newborn. Our priority was to provide immediate medical assistance and ensure they were safely transferred to the hospital,” Kalai said.
The family, originally from Ranchi, Jharkhand, includes the father, Katka Nagashia, who was also present during the incident.
