High Stack Uttar Pradesh Assembly Polls, which begun on February 11 came to an end today. On the seventh and final phase, over 60 per cent polling was reported. Average turnout in seven phases of polling slightly higher than 60 per cent. During 2012 Assembly Polls, on an average 59.48 per cent turnout was recorded.
Political analysts billed the UP election as a litmus test for PM Modi. Firstly, BJP largely relied on Modi’s appeal and popularity in its attempt to storm back into power after a gap of 15 years. Secondly, UP election along with Polls in other States, is a first major poll after Modi announced demonetization decision on November 8, 2016. For quite reason, all eyes will be glued to UP poll results as counting in UP, Manipur, Punjab and Uttakhand will be held on March 11.
