Apr 03, 2017: A blast on a subway train in the Russian city of St Petersburg has killed at least 10 people and injured about 50 others. The explosion occurred inside a train that was near Sennaya Ploshchad Station today afternoon.
In a tweet PM Narendra Modi said, Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the blasts at St. Petersburg metro. Heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
Air News reports, Video footage and photos from the scene showed a train carriage with a mangled door, as well as some injured people lying on the floor. People were seen evacuating the platform that was already filled with white smoke.
According to AIR News, Local media say all 5 lines of the metro system have been closed. Helicopters and ambulances rushed to the scene to treat the injured.President Vladimir Putin is in the city at the time of the blast. He was there to attend a gathering of local media officials and to meet the President of Belarus. Putin has ordered investigators to look into all possibilities, including a terror attack.
Initial reports suggested there had been two explosions, one each at Sennaya Ploshchad and nearby Institute of Technology stations, AIR News reported.
