Apr 07, 2017: For the second day today, Rajya Sabha witnessed noisy scenes on the reported incidents of organized gangs attacking people who transport cows in trucks to attend animal festival in Rajasthan.
As soon as the House met for the day, Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad raised the issue alleging that Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had misguided the House yesterday about the incident in Alwar. Responding to this, Mr Naqvi said the Rajasthan government had already taken action against those involved in the incident irrespective of religion.
He clarified that there were no such incidents in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Mr Naqvi said Home Minister will make a statement in this regard on Monday. Not satisfied with his statement, some of the Congress members trooped into the well of the House raising slogans against the government.
They demanded apology from Mr. Naqvi for his statement in the House yesterday. As noisy scenes continued, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien observed that he is not going to adjourn the House. Mr Kurien said that he was not allowed to speak. He criticised the agitating Congress members for their, what he called, irresponsible behaviour in the House.
He said it amounts to intimidation. Later, Mr Azad said that Home Minister should have given a statement today. To this, Mr Naqvi said Home Minister is out of station and he will make a statement in the House on Monday.
