Apr 22, 2017: Earth Day, an annual event celebrated on April 22 every year, is being observed today all over the world with the message to protect environment. The objective of celebrating Earth Day is to encourage people to become more environment friendly and the theme of Earth Day for this year is ‘Environmental and Climate Literacy’.
In a message, Prime Minister said, “Earth Day is a day of gratitude to Mother Earth and a day to reiterate our firm resolve to keep our planet clean and green. It is our duty to live in harmony with the plants, animals and birds we share the Earth with. We owe this to our future generations. I hope this year’s theme of ‘Environmental and Climate Literacy’ helps create awareness on protecting nature and natural resources.”
The Earth day is celebrated worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The day was proposed at the UNESCO conference in 1969 and the first Earth Day celebrations took place in 1970. Google is also celebrating Earth Day with a doddle that inspires people across the globe to be more environment friendly.
