May 05,2017: The Supreme Court revoked the suspension of eight students of Banaras Hindu University yesterday. They had been allegedly suspended following a hunger-strike demanding that the cyber library in the campus be opened round-the-clock, especially during examination time.
The court directed the varsity administration to conduct special examinations for students till 30th July, which they had missed due to the suspension. A bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra passed the order on a petition filed by the suspended students, through lawyers who had claimed that the action was taken to suppress their demand.
