June 15, 2017: With the theme ‘Blood connects us all, share, life, give blood’ drawing attention to the role that voluntary donation systems play in encouraging people to care for one another and promoting community bond, World Blood Donors Day was observed on June 14 by 4 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 21 sector Assam Rifles.
World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on 14 June, every year, to mark the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner, who first distinguished the main blood groups and discovered the Rh factor in human beings.
To mark the World Blood Donor Day a Blood Donation Camp was organised by Tripura State Blood Transfusion Council assisted by 4 Assam Rifles at Civil Hospital, Khowai today.
People from various tribes turned out in their ethnic attire and came forward to donate blood. It was a sight to see and exhibited the true meaning of ‘Unity in Diversity’ and ‘All Tribes, One India’. Each donor was presented with a table lamp and water filter to display that he is a saviour and had contributed to save a life. To further motivate, the people were provided with light refreshments and juices. A total of 28 civilians voluntarily donated blood and 135odd civilians participated in this noble cause.
As always, 4 Assam Rifles provided the necessary assistance for the camp and lived up to being ‘Friends of the Hill People’.
