June 21, 2017: In Bihar the JD(U) a major ally of grand alliance government in the state, has convened its core committee meeting today at Patna to discuss the presidential elections and decide on whether to support the NDAs Presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind or not.
The Party President and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will chair this meeting. Senior party leaders Sharad yadav and K C Tyagi will participate this meeting .

It may be noted that Mr. Kumar had offered fulsome praise for 71-year old Kovind and said he was personally happy with the decision.
Interestingly, the JD(U) has history of going against its allies in the Presidential polls.
Despite being in the NDA then, it had extended support to President Pranab Mukherjee during 2012 Presidential polls when the latter contested as the Congress backed nominee against NDAs PA Sangma.
Meanwhile, the Congress has invited opposition leaders meet on Thursday to discuss their future strategy on the Presidential election.
However, the election of Mr Kovind, as the country’s 14th President got further boost on Tuesday after the NDA’s key ally Shiv Sena came on board and announced its support.
Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackery said the decision to support Mr Kovind was arrived at after holding discussions with Sena leaders.
Meanwhile, Mr Ram Nath Kovind has resigned as the Governor of Bihar.
Mr Kovind met Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Mr Singh conveyed best wishes for his nomination as the NDA’s Presidential candidate.
