July 27,2017: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval arrived in Beijing yesterday to attend two day BRICS NSAs meeting beginning today. The visit comes in the backdrop of ongoing standoff between India and China in the Doklam region.
Mr Doval is expected to hold separate talks with China’s State Councilor Yang Jiechi on the standoff issue on the sidelines of the meeting. Mr Doval and Mr Yang are Special Representatives of the India-China border mechanism.
Indian and Chinese soldiers have been locked in a face-off in Doklam area of the Sikkim sector for over a month after Indian troops stopped the Chinese army from building a road in the disputed area.
Mr Doval will also call on Chinese President Xi Jinping tomorrow along with fellow top security officials of the BRICS countries. The group of NSAs will call on the Chinese President for an interaction on security issues relating to BRICS countries.
Besides Doval and Yang, Minister of State Security David Mahlobo of South Africa, Minister Sergio Etchegoyen of the Office of Institutional Security of the Presidency of Brazil, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev of the Russian Federation will also attend the NSAs meeting. (AIR NEWS)
