Govt to declassify Netaji related files

New Delhi: Oct 15:

Government has agreed to declassify the files relating to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. According to an official release, the process of declassification will begin on 23rd of January next year on his birth anniversary.

This assurance came from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the family members of Netaji who had an hour long meeting with him in New Delhi this evening.

35 family members of Netaji called on Mr. Modi at his residence and requested him for declassification of the files.

During interaction, the Prime Minister said there is no need to strangle history as nations that forget their history lack the power to create it.

Modi also agreed to take up the suggestion to request foreign governments to declassify files on Netaji available with them. He said he would not only write to them, but also take up the matter during his meetings with foreign leaders, beginning with Russia in December.

The Prime Minister said he finds the suggestions of the family members of Netaji to be similar to his own thinking and the view of the Central Government.

Modi urged them to consider him a part of their family. Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, and Babul Supriyo were also present on the occasion.

The family of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose has welcomed and expressed satisfaction over Prime Minister’s announcement to declassify the files relating to Netaji.

Netaji family member Abhijeet Ray said that during the meeting Narendra Modi agreed to declassify the file and thereby re-write the history of country’s freedom struggle.

He said Prime Minister has given the responsibility to Home Minister Rajnath Singh to look into the matter.

Another family member Arya Bose said they are hopeful that the government will do its best to reveal the mystery about the Netaji.

Grand nephew of Netaji, Chandra Bose described the decision as the Independence Day for the family.

Meanwhile, Hindustan Times reported, “Long-running fault lines in Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s family came to the fore when the freedom fighter’s descendents opposed to the theory of his air crash death met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Wednesday.”
