Honouring Albert Ekka

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday formally inaugurated Albert Ekka Memorial Park and Jagannath Bari Park in Agartala developed under the Agartala Smart City Mission.

The Chief Minister first laid a wreath at Albert Ekka War Memorial and then unveiled the plaques of both the projects at Lichubagan area.

Addressing the programme, Dr. Saha encouraged the youths to follow the footprints of the valiant soldiers of the country like Albert Ekka to reach their goals.

He said, the sacrifices of Indian soldiers during 1971 India-Pakistan war would always be remembered with great pride.

Dr. Saha said the war memorial has been built in respect to the freedom fighters and those soldiers who have laid down their lives for the country.

Importantly, Vinsent Ekka, son of Lance Naik Albert Ekka, PVC (posthumous), was present in the programme. He was honoured with a memento and cheque by Agartala Smart City Limited.

MLA Dilip Kumar Das, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, Director of Rajya Sainik Board- Brig (Retd.) J.P. Tiwari, Station Commander of Military Station, Agartala- Brig Nilesh Chowdhury, Brig Vikram Singh Guleria, DIG Assam Rifles (Agartala), Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Secretary of Urban Development department- Kiran Gitte, Chief Executive Officer of Agartala Smart City Limited Shailesh Kumar Yadav and others were present in the programme.

Meanwhile, the War Memorial has been named after Lance Naik (Paramveer) Albert Ekka, who among others saved the Agartala city during 1971 India-Pakistan War. (Courtesy: Tripura Times)
