New Delhi, April 29 (IANS) The BJP on Monday complained to the Election Commission against Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for violating model code of conduct by making malicious allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah.
The BJP cited the March 29 speech Rahul made in Yamunanagar, saying he alleged the PM took away Rs 30,000 cr from youth and gave it to an industrialist and on April 10 he mischievously quoted the SC to support his allegations against the PM.
“In a contempt petition filed in the Supreme Court Rahul Gandhi has accepted that his statement is false and he expressed ‘regret’ over his false statement,” said the BJP memorandum.
The memorandum said Rahul went on to accuse BJP chief Amit Shah of being a “murder accused” and attacked his family members, who have nothing to do with politics.
“In making references to Jay Shah, Rahul Gandhi violated the model code,” the BJP said, adding “these are but just a few instances of brazen and utterly false allegations.”
Meanwhile, The BJP on Monday complained to the Election Commission against violation of model code in West Bengal, citing various incidents.
The BJP said that in Ketugram (Bolpur Lok Sabha Constituency) an individual was seen interfering with free and fair exercise of votes within the polling booths.
“This put undue pressure on the voter to cast his/her vote in favour of TMC,” the BJP said.
In Jemua (Durgapur Lok Sabha Constituency) voters were lathicharged by the police and chased away from the polling booth while in Barabani (Asansol constituency), party MP Babul Supriyo was heckled outside polling booth no. 199 and his car was attacked.
Further, in Chapra (Krishnanagar Lok Sabha Constituency), BJP workers were terrorized and Trinamool Congress activists rigged booth no. 145 Kalyandaha, the BJP said, adding it had been reported that around 450 outsiders disturbed polling process at Bahrampur constituency.
