Amidst on going poll campaign in Tripura, Union Budget proposals have provided more punches to both ruling and Opposition parties.

Ruling party leaders are showering praises on Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for measures taken for growth.

In contrast, over the same growth issue, opposition in Tripura, especially CPIM and CPI, expressed serious concerns.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha described the Union Budget as an ‘enthusiastic and people
friendly’ Budget.

He said, “This Budget under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will bring transformation and strengthen economy to a
new height.

After pointing out several initiatives mentioned in the Budget, Dr Saha said, In this year, when G20 is hosted by India, this budget will be a boon for the ‘Amrit Kaal’ which aims at empowered and inclusive economy”.

Rajya Sabha MP from Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb termed the budget as a ‘visionary and pro-people Amrit Kaal Budget’ and extended the heartiest greetings to the Finance Minister.

Deb said the Budget would provide a huge boost to efforts to achieve the objective of developing Aatmanirbhar Bharat under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Infrastructure and investment along with emphasis on youth power and green growth are the unique points of the budget, ruling party leaders commented.

The ruling party leaders appreciated the decision to give Income Tax relief by increasing the rebate limit. They also applauded proposals pertaining to the MSME, Start-Ups and fund allocation for the development of the tribals and marginalized sections.

However, the Budget drew sharp criticism from the Leftists as they dubbed the Budget as ‘Anti-people’ and ‘contractionary’.

According to CPIM and CPI leaders, after the Covid pandemic, it was necessary that the budget address the ‘central issues of increasing people’s purchasing power with job generation and boosting the growth of domestic demand’.

However, the Budget had failed to do so, Leftist leaders opined.

On the income tax relief, he Leftists commented, even as the rebate in Income tax has been increased to Rs 7 lakh, the benefit will be more than offset by an unabated price rise and inflation.
