February 06, 2018: In Jammu and Kashmir, the death toll in the SMHS Hospital shootout in Srinagar has mounted to two as the injured policeman succumbed to his injuries at hospital. He was identified as constable Babar.
Earlier, Head Constable Mushtaq Ahmad of the State Police was killed inside the Hospital premises after militants fired upon the two policemen accompanying a detenue LeT militant who had been brought for a medical check-up.
The Pakistani militant, who escaped with the attackers after the shootout, has been identified as Naveed, alias, Abu Hanzla. He had been arrested in 2015 from south Kashmir.
Talking to reporters outside SMHS Hospital, DIG, Central Kashmir Range, Ghulam Hassan Bhat, denied any rifle snatching during the incident. He said unknown militants fired upon the police escort from outside.
Srinagar city has been put on high alert. A major manhunt has been launched in the city areas to nab Naveed and the attackers. (AIR News)
