Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha held a special discussion session with the state’s Janajati journalists and social media influencers. Organized by the Khumulwng Press Club on Friday, this event was a significant gesture as the Chief Minister extended greetings for the upcoming Diwali festival to various tribal journalists, editors-in-chief of media houses, and social media influencers across the state.

During the interaction, the Janajati journalists hailed BJP-led Government for ensuring a safe and free working environment which according to them is inspiring the Janajati youths to take up a career in journalism. They also raised several demands.

The Chief Minister greeted the Janajati journalists and reiterated that State development would not be possible without the support of the Janajati journalists.

Today’s interaction event was held at the State Guest House. The event witnessed the presence of notable social worker Dr. Bipin Debbarma, along with the Chief Minister. At the beginning of the session, the Chief Minister was warmly welcomed by Khumulwng Press Club’s president Anshumoy Debbarma and Secretary Ranjit Debbarma with Tripura’s traditional tribal attire, the risha, and a bouquet of flowers. Female tribal journalists and other media organization representatives also participated in the ceremony, offering their Diwali greetings to the Chief Minister.

During the event, tribal journalists discussed various professional challenges, government schemes provided to them, and presented several demands. Six senior tribal journalists participated in the discussion. One major issue raised was the recent formation of an advisory committee under the state’s Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, which included 33 senior journalists but did not include any tribal journalists. Khumulwng Press Club’s Secretary, Ranjit Debbarma, requested the Chief Minister to review this matter. He also emphasized the need for a media center for all media houses in the state and government-provided accommodation for journalists in Agartala.

Chief Minister Manik Saha responded, saying, “There was a time when. freedom was nearly absent here. Divisions between communities disrupted the state’s peace. However, after the government changed, peace, freedom, and the safety of journalists returned to the state. I am delighted to see such a large number of tribal journalists today. Our goal is to build ‘Ek Tripura, Shreshtha Tripura’ (One Tripura, Best Tripura), which cannot be achieved without the support of tribal journalists. Your demands are timely, and the government will consider them carefully.”

Referring to the advisory committee under the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, he assured that this issue would be discussed in the committee’s first meeting and that an expansion of its members would be considered if needed. The Chief Minister promised to address the demands of tribal journalists with due importance and expedite solutions.

The event concluded with a photo session where Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha joined the tribal journalists. This meeting marks a milestone for tribal journalists, reflecting the government’s commitment to press freedom and inclusivity.
