18 patients escape Covid Care facility

After Agartala, now 25 Covid patients gave a slip to the security personnel at a Covid Care centre in Ambassa of Dhalai district on Monday night.

The 25 patients, all migrant labourers from parts of Assam, escaped the Covid Care Centre at PRTI, Ambassa. The incident has sent the administration along with the district police authorities into tizzy.

A high-level meeting chaired by District Magistrate, sources said, was already held in the wake of the incident.

According to sources, police launched a massive search operation and picked up seven of the 25 persons from Ambassa railway station Tuesday morning. There was no trace of the remaining 18 patients till the last information came in.

While SP Dhalai Kishore Debbarma denied making any comment on the issue over telephone unless confirmation of journalist’s identity, SDPO Ambassa also gave no response despite attempts made several times.

It was the second incident of patients fleeing away from Covid Care facility during the second wave. Earlier, 31 patients, all outsiders, had similarly escaped from a Covid Care centre in the capital city.
