5 houses gutted in massive fire in Mizoram, 107-year-old Buddhist monk died

A 107-year-old Buddhist monk died and five residential buildings were gutted in a massive fire in a remote village of Mizoram. A fire broke out at a Buddhist temple at Longpuighat village in Lawngtlai district late at Thursday (March 9 ) night.
 
District police said the cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, as the investigation into the incident is underway.

 

However, they said an electric short circuit is primarily suspected to be the cause behind the incident.

 

Local people said the fire was first found erupting from the residence of the deceased monk.

 

Officials from the district administration said that properties worth around Rs 3 crore rupees were lost in the incident.
