This year's Advocate Dilip Sarkar Memorial Debate will be held on November 29th at the 2nd House of Rabindra Bhavan in the capital. Tripura's Minister of Tourism, Transport, Food and Civil Supplies, Sushant Chowdhury, will officially inaugurate this year's debate program at 6 pm.
Every year, this annual debate discusses various topics of social and global importance. This year, the central theme of the debate is "National Interest Demands Regulation of Social Media".
It is noteworthy that the Dilip Sarkar Memorial Debate was started three years ago in memory of the late Dilip Sarkar, a distinguished lawyer and cultural worker of the state, with the aim of promoting legal awareness on various issues and rational thinking, as well as encouraging intellectual practice among the younger generation through debates.
In a statement on Wednesday, the organizers said that eminent orators from Tripura and Kolkata will participate in this year's debate. On behalf of the Dilip Sarkar Memorial Foundation, Senior Advocate and Head of the Program, Subrata Sarkar, said that Senior IAS Officer and newly appointed Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tripura, Brijesh Pandey, popular radio presenter Agnijit Sen of Kolkata's Radio Mirchi, renowned West Bengal writer and speaker Chandril Bhattacharya, Tripura's renowned diabetes specialist Dr. Basab Ghosh, LIC's Senior Marketing Manager Nabaran Ghosh, Assistant Professor of Tripura University Sayak Mukherjee, Assistant Professor Dr. Ripan Bhattacharya of Tripura National Law University, and lawyer Smt. Rajshri Purkayastha will participate in the panel as panelists. The role of moderator will be played by Dr. Kunal Sarkar, a renowned cardiac surgeon from Kolkata.
On behalf of the Dilip Sarkar Memorial Foundation, it has been informed that each participating panelist will be given six minutes to finish his/her discussion and then two additional minutes. After the completion of the main discussion, one person from each side will be given two minutes each to refute/react to the opponent.
The organizers said that the main objective of this debate is to spread social awareness on various issues of social and global importance and at the same time encourage the art of reasoned argument or speaking among the younger generation.
