Tripura Women cricket team registered a hat-trick win, keeping the top spot in Group B in the Senior Women’s One-day Cricket Tournament on Monday. Led by captain Anupama Das, the team defeated powerful Karnataka by 37 runs at KIIT Academy ground in Bhubaneswar today.
In reply to Tripura's 184, Karnataka managed to score only 147. Indrarani Jamatia scored 73 runs for Tripura.
Karnataka won the toss and invited Tripura to bat first. The two openers, Mouchaiti Debnath and Indrarani Jamatia, started slowly but laid the foundation for a big score. They kept the opposition at bay and took the team to 83 runs in 159 balls. Mouchaiti scored 46 runs with the help of seven fours in 94 balls. Indrarani scored 73 runs with the help of six fours and one six in 105 balls.
Tripura then started losing wickets quickly. It was Hena Hotchandini who provided some resistance towards the end. Hena scored 32 runs with the help of four fours in 53 balls.
Tripura scored 184 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs. Karnataka's Sahana S. Pawar took two wickets for 20 runs.
In reply, Karnataka was under pressure from the start due to the aggressive bowling by Tripura bowlers. Skipper Anupama Das led the bowling attack for Tripura.
Karnataka's only resistance came from D. Vrinda. The opener scored 55 runs with the help of three fours in 82 balls. Shefali Prathishha scored 33 runs with the help of three fours in 43 balls, Veda Krishnamurthy scored 22 runs with the help of two fours and one six in 32 balls, and Pushpa K. scored 13 runs with the help of one four in 32 balls. Karnataka was all out for 147 runs in 39.2 overs.
Tripura's Anupama Das took five wickets for 22 runs, and Surbi Roy took two wickets for 37 runs.
After winning all three matches, Tripura is at the top of the group with 12 points. The team will play its fourth match against Vidarbha on January 10. A win in that match will make it almost certain that Tripura will qualify from the group.
