Actor Hugh Jackman and his wife, fellow actress Deborra-Lee Furness, have recently announced their separation after 27 years of marriage. The Australian couple emphasized that their separation is amicable and expressed gratitude for the nearly three decades of a strong and loving marriage.
In a statement provided to People magazine, the couple stated, "We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth."
They continued by emphasizing the importance of their family, saying, "Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives."
The statement, signed 'Deb and Hugh Jackman,' concluded with the assurance that it would be their only statement on the matter.
During their 27 years of marriage, the couple welcomed two children, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18.
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness first crossed paths in 1995 on the set of the Australian TV series 'Corelli,' where they immediately felt a strong connection. Despite Lee's established acting career and Jackman's status as an up-and-coming actor fresh out of drama school, they married less than a year later.
Jackman fondly recalled their first meeting in a 2017 interview with People, saying, "Deb, she was a big star... I got picked up, and Deb is in the front seat of the car. I'll never forget. She took off her seatbelt and she turned around and put out her hand and took off her sunglasses and said: 'Hi, I'm Deborra-lee Furness, nice to meet you.' I remember thinking, 'I like this girl.'"
