Be 'Vocal for Local' in Diwali : Tripura CM urges to bring home bamboo Diyas

After bamboo rice and cookies, now the bamboo artisans of Tripura have introduced attractive and eco-friendly bamboo Diyas.

The making of bamboo candles will not only provide livelihood support to the womenfolk (SHG members) but also contribute a lot in boosting the local economy—thanks to District Magistrate (DM), Sepahijala Viswashree B. for her innovative idea.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has launched the bamboo-made candles prepared by the SHG members of Mohanbhog and Nalchar blocks in Civil Secretariat, Agartala on Friday.

While appreciating the efforts made by the local bamboo artisans, the Chief Minister said that a good number of women in various parts of the state, being inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, were marching towards achieving the goal of self-reliance.

“Only self-reliant people can build a Swanirbhar state. Now, the people of Tripura have realized the importance of self-reliance and developed the mind-set for achieving the goal,” the Chief Minister told Media after launching the bamboo diyas.

He said the state government is taking various steps to utilize all possible potentials in various ways as the state has huge possibilities in the field of cottage industries. The Prime Minister also laid special focus to develop this sector, he said.

Later speaking to media, he referred to the steps taken by his government.

He also claimed that various PSUs and government undertaking organizations like Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC), Tripura Khadi Gramudyog Board, Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC), Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) and Tripura State Cooperative had registered handsome profit in the past two and half years.

In the meantime, the local SHG members of Mohanbhog and Nalchar blocks are also producing molasses and pineapple jelly.
