Tripura Pradesh Congress president Asish Kumar Saha breathed fire at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma after Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was stopped from entering capital of Assam, Guwahati on Tuesday.
Without naming the Assam Chief Minister, Saha alleged the actions of the most corrupt chief minister in the country, are inadvertently fueling the momentum of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
The Yatra, which took place in Guwahati on Tuesday, saw a significant turnout of Pradesh Congress activists from different areas. From Tripura, Apart from Asish Saha, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, a permanent invitee member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), and a multitude of party supporters attended the rally.
However, the yatra faced resistance upon reaching the capital of Assam. The local administration prevented the procession from entering the city. This sparked a wave of protests from Congress activists, who defied the barriers and voiced their dissent against the state government.
The situation escalated when the police resorted to a lathi-charge, resulting in injuries to several Congress workers, including Bhupen Borah, the president of the Assam Congress.
In response to these events, TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha, who participated in the yatra, criticized the Assam chief minister for his alleged misuse of power and undemocratic actions. He stated and alleged, “Rahul Gandhiji was scheduled to interact with hundreds of students at USTM University. However, following the intervention of the Union Home Minister, his invitation was revoked. The BJP government may have canceled the program, but they couldn’t prevent the students from hearing Rahul Gandhiji.”
Saha further expressed his concern over the chief minister’s reaction to the overwhelming support and affection that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party have been receiving from the public.
He alleged, “Congress activists have been assaulted under the orders of the chief minister. The police were accompanied by BJP hooligans. But this will not halt our journey.”
Asish Saha condemned the BJP for allegedly infringing upon the democratic rights of ordinary citizens.
