Bru Reang resettlement in Tripura underway: Thousands of houses, aid provided

In the ongoing process of rehabilitation of the Bru Reang community, significant progress has been achieved with the construction of 5,658 houses for identified Bru families at 11 different locations in Tripura.

 

Puneet Agarwal, the Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department, provided an update during a press meeting held in Agartala on Thursday. He highlighted that as per the quadripartite agreement, a total of 6,302 Bru families have been identified in the state, and their rehabilitation process is currently underway.

 

Agarwal said, "Construction of houses for the remaining families is still in progress. Each family will receive house building assistance in three equal installments of Rs1.5 lakh."

 

Furthermore, he shared that 3,961 Bru Reang families have already received a one-time fixed deposit of Rs 4 lakh. Additionally, 5,286 families have been issued Record of Rights (ROR), 5,759 families have received ration cards, and Aadhaar cards have been issued to 23,017 individuals.

 

Besides, 14,019 Bru Reang individuals have obtained ST certificates, 13,070 individuals have been issued Permanent Resident Tripura Certificates (PRTC), 4,632 families have received REGA Job Cards, and 14,314 Bru Reang people have been issued Voter ID cards.

 

On a separate note, Agarwal informed the media about the Chief Minister's Tea Workers Welfare Scheme, which has provided free land through the revenue department for housing to 1,910 tea worker families in the state.

In particular, he highlighted the support extended to the families affected by the tragic 'Ulta Rath Yatra' incident in Kumarghat.

 

Agarwal said, "Families of the deceased have been granted financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh, while those seriously injured by 60% received Rs 2 lakh 50 thousand.

 

Individuals with injuries ranging from 40% to 60% were given Rs 74 thousand, and those with less than 40% injuries received Rs 5,400."

 

Furthermore, Agarwal shared detailed information regarding the construction and renovation projects undertaken for administrative buildings during the 2022-23 fiscal year in the state. Additionally, he mentioned that three projects have been initiated for the current financial year under the Golden Jubilee Tripura Nirman Yojana, with a total cost of Rs 35 crores and 14 lakhs.

 

The press conference was attended by Additional Secretary Pradeep Acharya and Sarat Das, the State Coordinator of Disaster Management.
