Bru resettlement to be done as promised: Tripura CM, Royal scion demands speedy implementation

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Monday made it clear that the Bru resettlement process – as decided in a multi-corner meeting in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah -  would be carried out within the stipulated time.

He also said that Covid19 pandemic had delayed rehabilitation process. In view of emerging situation, the Tripura government has approached the central government seeking an extension of two or three months.

Meanwhile, Royal scion of Tripura Pradyut Kishore Debbarma has also voiced on the issue and demanded speedy implementation of the re-settlement pact.

On the side line of a programme, the Chief Minister said, “The Bru resettlement matter has been completely resolved with the intervention of Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Amit Shah. A quadripartite pact had been signed and all the promised points are in the implementation level. As the state government, one of the signatory parties of the pact, it is our duty to provide as to what is promised in the pact under the aegis of the central government”.

He also added that there were no confusions left with the rehabilitation of Bru Reangs.

Regarding the Covid 19 related delay, he said, “it is right that Covid 19 pandemic has delayed the implementation of the work. For that, we have sought time from the Centre for timely implementation of the promises made in the quadripartite pact”.

Meanwhile, former TPCC President Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, who had played a role in making the quadripartite meeting take place, also met Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb Monday to expedite the Bru settlement process. “The government of India has made a commitment to the Bru people and we are hopeful that the state government will surely keep its promises”, Pradyot said.

Pradyot also met the Chief Secretary of Tripura and urged the officials to resolve the complications arising centering the resettlement issue must be resolved within sometime.
